As the echoes of the Melbourne Cup, famously known as the ‘day that stops the nation,’ begin to fade, you might be surprised to learn that Melbourne is still buzzing with international sporting excitement. The 2023 Para Asian Cup, organised by the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF), has gathered some of the world’s best teams. And our ParaMatildas and Pararoos are making Australia proud!
ParaMatildas and Pararoos: champions against all odds
The CommBank Pararoos (men’s) and CommBank ParaMatildas (women’s) are Australia’s national teams for footballers with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury or symptoms of stroke such as ParaMatildas’ Forward Nicole Christodoulou. Together, these two teams stand for the 4.4 million Australians living with a disability.
Their health challenges manifest in various ways, including balance issues, weakened limbs and other complications in their daily lives, let alone on the football field. However, it’s truly inspiring to witness the transformation when they don the green and gold to represent Australia.
OnePassport’s commitment to care
This is what motivates the team at OnePassport. We understand that without the dedicated individuals working in the care sectors such as Health, Disability, Allied Health, Aged Care and more, there would be no care, no support, and no rehabilitation. And without them, there would be no ParaMatildas and Pararoos.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the stakeholders involved in this remarkable event, including Football Australia and La Trobe University. They are hosting the competition at the newly constructed and world-class Home of the Matildas at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Victoria.
In Conclusion
Let’s take a moment to applaud the incredible achievements of our ParaMatildas and Pararoos, who demonstrate dedication, resilience and the power of sports to unite us all. Their presence in Melbourne this week is a testament to the diverse and vibrant world of international sports.
By supporting these athletes and the broader care community, we reinforce our commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity and the recognition that everyone deserves a chance to shine. We hope you’ll join us in cheering on the ParaMatildas and Pararoos as they aim for victory at the 2023 Para Asian Cup.
